AMY

Amy Fialkowski

YOUTH COURT LEADER
Amy Fialkowski, Director
Wyoming County Youth Court
NEW YORK

In 2011, Youth Court Leader Amy Fialkowski began serving part-time as Wyoming County Youth Court Coordinator at the Wyoming Youth Bureau in New York State. In 2014, Amy became a full-time employee at the Wyoming Youth Bureau, and she was able to further advance the Youth Court Diversion Program and establish the Wyoming County Bully Task Force in Wyoming County, New York. Amy wisely incorporated Bulling into the Wyoming County Youth Court, and created a Bully Court – the 1st of its kind in New York State. Like the Long Island area of New York, the Western Area of New York for quite a few years has been attracting local Youth Court leaders, who met on a regional basis, more often than a state level, for practical and other reasons. Since 2012, Amy continues to be a leader in the Western Region of New York, where Youth Court Leaders have now convened an Annual Summit for the Awesome Youth Court Youth Volunteers for 6-Years in a Row, and Amy volunteered to take on a lead role in 2017, with the establishment of the Western New York Regional Association of Youth Courts. Amy also recently attended the 15th Global Youth Justice Training in Cape Cod, USA, where she made time to make an excellent presentation, which helped those attending get new ideas to Establish or Enhance a Youth Court Diversion Program. Thanks for All You Do Amy!!!

“Making the Time for Juvenile Crime”

If negative peer pressure is a primary factor in leading some youth to commit a crime, offense and/or violation, then positive peer pressure can be harnessed and redirected to become a positive force and lead other youth to adhere to the rule of law and become more productive citizens. These youth justice and juvenile justice voluntary diversion programs harness positive peer pressure and utilize it in a peer judgment setting to help address the anti-social, delinquent, and/or criminal behavior of youth.

The ‘peer judgment’ and ‘positive peer pressure’ aspects of these programs are the two (2) primary programmatic elements which separate these youth justice and juvenile justice voluntary diversion programs from all of the others. As of 2017, there are a Record 1,700+ Active Youth Court, Teen Court, Student Court, Peer Court and Peer Jury Diversion Programs on 4-Continents — with Hundreds More in Various Stages of Development. Global Youth Justice Website
